The Hersey Custom ORIGINAL
This is our very first design, and it still can't be beat as a stable trainer or general-use shoe with outstanding motion control. The upper part of the Original is made of sueded pigskin and nylon mesh. The heel counter is dual 60/60 Surlyn®, and the midsole features a four-piece horseshoe construction. For most customers, the Original is combination lasted, but for extremely pronating feet, or very heavy runners, I may fully board last one or both shoes as the need dictates. To make the Original into a superb trail running shoe, I can simply substitute our deep-lug sole for our standard carbon rubber sole. The Hersey Custom DPS
It's the DPS that was rated the world's number one running shoe by Runner's World Magazine when we introduced it in 1984. (It might still be if the ratings hadn't been immediately discontinued forever upon the protests of the giant manufacturers.) DPS means Durometric Progression Midsole System. Simply stated, the durometer (density and resistance to compression) varies as your foot travels from the heel strike to mid-stance to toe-off. Because the midsole is made of five to six separate and distinct pieces of material, it can be fully customized to your individual bio-mechanical needs and to whatever degree of control and cushioning you require. DPS also minimizes the weight of the midsole by placing the denser, therefore heavier, material only where it is needed. The lightweight upper is made of 1.5 mm Clarino® synthetic suede and nylon mesh, which make this shoe ideally suited for the runner who is concerned about weight but who cannot sacrifice control. Our standard carbon rubber outersole maximizes traction and durability. Overall, the DPS works well for the average-size runner who racks up high mileage. Top | Home

TRAIL RUNNER We originally developed this shoe for Ted Winters and his trail running
partners in Southern California. Our trail runner has finished Leadville,
Western States, and Angeles Crest among others on numerous occasions.
Waterproof sueded pigskin and nylon mesh yields a breathable and supportive
upper that will not pick up moisture on those long trail runs in bad weather.
We have board lasted this shoe to maximize stability. A heavily padded
tongue and reinforced toe bumper give additional protection. Our off road
sole provides superb traction and durability. This model is also suitable
for ultra light backpacking. Top | Home
| Shoe Index If you mated a training shoe with a racing shoe, this is what you'd get. The TR is designed for runners who need a very light and flexible trainer. It's also a good choice for larger runners who want to race in something lighter than they train in but who still need more support and protection than a racing flat provides. The upper is usually made with 1.5 mm Clarino® synthetic suede and 200 denier nylon mesh. Fully slip-lasted, the TR has our four-piece horseshoe midsole and a blown rubber Vibram® outersole. The Hersey CustomRACING FLAT This is a true racing flat, light and flexible to the extreme. The lower heel lift and lighter midsole greatly enhance flexibility and give the runner a real feel for the road. The blown rubber Vibram® outersole and fully slip-lasted construction help minimize the shoe's weight. One word of caution, however. This is a minimal shoe and is not intended for someone with bio-mechanical problems, nor for use as a day-to-day trainer. It is ideal for runners fixated on speed and their next PR.
