Changes & charges
Even though your shoes will be one of a kind, they will probably fall into one of the categories listed here. If the final price should vary, or should we change it, we'll make sure you know before we start cutting, sewing and gluing. Please note that the charge for developing the last and pattern is one-time only. Even if you have slight changes in your foot, like a bunion, or say if you need more room in the toe box for trail running, we can make simple adjustments to the last for your next pair at no extra cost to you. Only if your foot completely changes shape for some reason would we need to make a new last.
We reserve the right to charge an additional fee of up to $75.00 for extremely complex, difficult to fit, or abnormal situations. This would be billed upon receipt of your order.
Assessing the value
Do you know the price of the Hersey Custom Original has gone up only $60 since we started making it in 1983? That's because Jan and I are trying to make a living, not a killing, and we have a very simple lifestyle. So, we don't need to give ourselves lots of raises but just need to cover increases in the cost of materials and such. A pair of Hersey Customs built just for you will last far longer than off-the-shelf shoes, even if you never resoled them. Also consider that your Herseys can be resoled at least several times before they finally croak, at a fraction of any new-shoe price. And when you finally do need a new pair, we still have your model.
