Walking produces less shock than running, so there is less concern about shock absorption in a walking shoe. With this in mind, we designed the Hersey Custom Walker with a lower heel lift than our running shoes and a slightly denser midsole, resulting in a lower center of gravity and maximum stability. At the same time, we have managed to make the forefoot flexible so that the shoe is not "hard." Typically, our Walker is combination lasted, but many larger versions require fully board-lasted construction. As with all the other Herseys, your Walkers will be designed specifically for your needs.

We built the High Top in response to frequent requests from customers who wanted extra ankle support without having to settle for a battleship that was too heavy or restrictive. We can build it with any of the materials we use to make uppers and with any of our midsole constructions. Because of its depth, the High Top is great for runners who have extreme orthotic corrections, and it is also ideally suited to trail running, orienteering or just plain walking. So, if ankle problems are preventing you from enjoying your favorite exercise, this shoe may be your solution.

This sturdy low-cut hiking shoe is intended for trail use and will easily support larger folks carrying day packs or smaller folks carrying medium size backpacks. The upper is made exclusively of brown waterproof leather that features one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios available. The high-density EVA midsole provides excellent shock absorption and protection against the surprises of uneven terrain. We have lowered the heel lift to increase stability, and the almost "sticky" nature of our extremely durable carbon rubber off-road sole provides great sure-footedness. In addition, we use a fully board-lasted construction for extra stiffness and stability, and the toe box is reinforced to protect your toes against the threat of abrasion from rocks, roots and other nasties. Finally, the truly rugged Hersey Custom Hiker is double stitched and double cemented.
